We researched the Top 400 Contractors in the Country for 2012 to ascertain if there was a common thread that lead to their success. They are ranked by amount of new contracts received in 2011. There are 23 contractors from New York on the list & 11 from New Jersey. We have listed them below along with their most recent experience mod data we could find.
You can see there is an obvious correlation between a low experience mod and industry success. We looked at their workers compensation experience modification factor as it’s a great benchmark that reveals job site injuries. The higher the workers compensation experience modification factor, the higher their job site injury rates are.
It even surprised us just how pertinent the data is. Remember an average experience mod is a 1.00! Out of all 34 contractors below, we found 3 with an above average mod. That’s 8%. Take out the 2 companies we couldn’t find data for and we’ll call it 10%. While an experience mod is not the only reason these companies are succeeding, it is a leading indicator as to both their safety and their cost efficiency. Contractors with high injury rates tend to waste resources and have much higher unit costs than their best practice peers.
Not sure what your mod is, or what it means? Watch our video on the subject, and then call us to find out what your workers compensation experience modification factor is. Our goal is to help our clients achieve a cost efficiency, lowering your unit cost structure and allowing you to bid more competitively. With Met Risk you’ll be on this list in no time!
