I recently read a post by one of my favorite bloggers Seth Godin about planning & execution. The guy isn’t just prolific, he is usually spot on. In one of his recent posts he talked about the millions of hours companies all across the country spend with their teams planning and budgeting for the upcoming year. He referenced many of the phrases and descriptions folks use in their meetings and documents. Just a quick sample below:
-
- Identify new markets & opportunities
- Commit to safety
- Develop and align talent
- Better on-boarding process for new hires
- Hold employees and managers accountable for workplace injuries
- Lower insurance costs
- Operate more efficiently
- Hire better sub contractors and vendors
- Deliver a better customer experience
- Lower our workers’ compensation costs
The challenge is that these plans and descriptions are built on “VAGUE”. Godin states and I agree; vague is safe. No one ever got in trouble for failing to meet a vague plan. If this resembles your planning sessions we suggest you partner with someone who can ask the hard questions and help you put the pieces in place to begin to execute so you get a result and not simply an outcome.
If your 2015 goals include some of the above, we are here to help you come up with a very specific plan of action to execute on your 2015 goals. Then, just as importantly, we will hold everyone accountable to the plan.
